Schindler's Knitting Mill is the only knitting mill in the Czech Republic that has been operating continuously since 1854, i.e. for more than 170 years. It still uses its original production program. It manufactures knitwear and hosiery . This involves knitting on both circular and flat knitting machines. The craft is passed down from generation to generation. We have employees whose parents worked in the knitting mill.
The knitting mill's strength lies in professional clothing, thin knitwear with handcrafted details (chain stitches), where no other domestic knitting mill has the same or similar experience with the production of "uniforms," i.e., clothing produced in ready-to-wear sizes (including oversizes) for men/women repeatedly and in such volumes (tens of thousands of pieces per year - formerly Falke, Bode, later Lufthansa, now Swiss Post). It also produces for some smaller fashion designer brands in the Czech Republic, Slovakia, and Poland.
We are continuing the work of our ancestors and carrying on with respect and reverence for their achievements.
Schindler's Knitting Mill is the only knitting mill in the Czech Republic that has been in continuous operation since 1854 - more than 170 years.
What's more, it still maintains its original production program. It specializes in the manufacture of knitted clothing and hosiery, i.e., knitting on both circular and flat knitting machines. The craft is passed down from generation to generation, and some of our employees are the children of former knitting mill workers. Now, with enthusiasm, excitement, and energy - using modern technologies and functional materials - we are continuing the tradition of knitting production in Krásná Lípa, of which we are duly proud and which we want to preserve and pass on to future generations.
The three pillars of prosperity, social benefit, and the meaning of our work:
I. Production - manufacturing
Schindler's Knitting Mill is the largest manufacturer of outerwear and hosiery in the Czech Republic. We produce professional clothing, uniforms, and fashionable designer clothing.
II. Education - knowledge sharing
We organize regular knitting symposiums called Krásnolipské pletení (Krásná Lípa Knitting) for secondary school and university students from the Czech Republic and Slovakia who are interested in clothing design and knitting technology. The next symposium, the third in the series, will take place on June 18-19, 2026. We collaborate with UMPRUM Prague, TUL Liberec, and other schools. We also collaborate with the National Technical Museum in Prague. We hold workshops and organize internships for students.
III. Culture - education
Regular guided tours of the knitting mill with demonstrations of individual operations. Open house. Concerts for the public in the industrial environment of the knitting mill. Exhibitions for the public both outside and inside the knitting mill. Publication of the book "A přece se plete..." (And Yet It Knits...). Maintenance of the building, an exceptional architectural and cultural monument of the Czech Republic. Popularization of the craft and work of the knitting mill in the media. Cooperation with the town of Krásná Lípa and OPS České Švýcarsko. Cooperation with the Czech Switzerland National Park. Cross-border cooperation - Grossschönau Museum, Germany.
